Located about 40 kilometers from Nancy, Pont-à-Mousson is a small town nestled in the heart of Lorraine. This is the place where the first university in Lorraine was established in 1572. Comprising four faculties – a faculty of arts, a faculty of theology, a faculty of medicine and a faculty of law, this was a renowned meeting place for European intellectuals and scientists. After almost two centuries of development, the University was relocated in Nancy in 1768. Coming to Pont-à-Mousson is like visiting the roots of today’s Université de Lorraine, created in 2012 and boasting around 60,000 students, primarily in Nancy and Metz.

Pont-à-Mousson, a picturesque town crossed by the winding waters of the Moselle, exudes charm and history. Its paved streets lined with half-timbered houses bear witness to a rich and colorful past, while its elegant bridges offer breathtaking views of the verdant riverbanks. Dominating the landscape, the Prémontrés abbey stands majestically, a symbol of the region’s spiritual and cultural importance. At its foot, the heart of the town beats to the rhythm of lively cafés and quaint boutiques, inviting visitors to stroll and discover its hidden treasures. Pont-à-Mousson is also a crossroads of knowledge and innovation, home to a prestigious university and renowned research centers. This dynamic intellectual atmosphere blends harmoniously with the beauty of its architecture and the tranquility of its landscapes, making the town a great place to live and discover.
